Among the many Canadian film festivals, the Toronto International Film Festival is considered one of the forefronts of the film festival in the world. Also, the Toronto International Film Festival considered as one of the premiere film festival in the whole North America from which the Oscar awards commences. The Toronto International Film Festival has the largest attendance not just among the Canadian film festivals but also in the international film festival circuit. The Toronto International Film Festival was originally called “The Festivals of Festivals” and began in 1976. The Festivals of Festivals began as a collection of all the best films from film festivals all over the globe. In 1998, the Toronto International Film Festival is considered the best among Canadian film festivals because of the high profile pictures, actors and market activity. The celebration for the Toronto International Film Festival begins after the first Monday of September in Canada, and is celebrated for ten days. The said Canadian film festival screens average three hundred to four hundred films in 23 screening locations in downtown Toronto. The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the many Canadian film festivals that are considered as the launching pad of many film studios and independent film makers.
Another well known film festival among the Canadian film festivals is the Vancouver International Film Festival. The Vancouver International Film Festival is one of the most attended Canadian film festivals. It averages over more than a hundred and fifty attendees and has more than five hundred screenings of over three hundred films from fifty different countries around the world. The aim of the Vancouver International Film Festival is to encourage the knowledge of countries around the world through the art of cinemas, to adopt the art of cinemas and facilitate the convention in British Columbia of film industry professionals around the globe, thus, stimulating the film industry in British Columbia and Canada.
Another well known Canadian film festivals are the Montreal World Film Festival and the Montreal International Film Festival. The Montreal World Film Festival is the successor of the defunct Montreal Film Festival. Due to the lack of funding of the Montreal Film Festival, two Canadian film festivals were created. The Montreal World Film Festival is the rival of the Toronto International Film Festival, however, the focus of the Montreal World Film Festival are films from all over the globe and has rarely features Hollywood films. On the other hand, The Montreal International Film Festival showcases films for the North American distributors and tries to copy the popular Toronto International Film Festival. Even if the Montreal International Film Festival has few major buyers unlike the Toronto International Film Festival but it has a large audience.
